Midnight Madness at UT

10/3/2002

The University of Toledo will host a Midnight Madness basketball scrimmage Friday, Oct. 11, in Savage Hall.

The men's and women's teams will be introduced and will scrimmage at midnight, the first practice time allowed by the NCAA.

The men's team also will stage a slam-dunk exhibition, while the women will conduct a specialized shooting drill.

Doors will open at 10 p.m. There will be no charge for admission. Fans can pick up posters and schedules and get autographs from both teams.

Fans also will be able to participate in a variety of shooting contests. A grand prize of $1,000 will be given away after the scrimmages.

The UT men return four starters from last year's 16-14 squad that won seven of its final eight games. The women return several key players from last year's 17-11 team.

Coach Stan Joplin's men's team will open its season Nov. 6 against a foreign team to be announced. Coach Mark Ehlen's women's team will open against the Ohio All-Stars on Nov. 7.
