The University of Toledo is looking for its fourth defensive-line coach in four years after Jimmy Williams was hired yesterday as linebackers coach at Nebraska, his alma mater.
Williams, 42, is the sixth new assistant to be hired by coach Frank Solich since Nebraska finished with a 7-7 record. The official announcement is expected to come today or tomorrow.
Williams was named to nine All-American teams as a senior defensive end for the Cornhuskers in 1981, in addition to being named Big Eight Conference defensive player of the year.
He was Detroit's first-round draft pick in 1982 and spent 12 seasons in the NFL with the Lions, Tampa Bay and Minnesota.
Williams was at UT for one season after spending 2001 as the defensive-line coach at Grand Valley State.
