It takes a pretty good quarterback to beat Toledo at the Glass Bowl

Research tells us it takes a big-time quarterback to beat the Rockets in the Glass Bowl.

Bowling Green's Omar Jacobs, a gifted sophomore who has made a huge splash in his first season and is no doubt headed for bigger and better things in the coming years, almost pulled it off.

Jacobs had the Falcons on top 27-7 at the half, and threw for 415 yards and four touchdowns in the game.

He should take some solace in the fact that Toledo has lost just five games at home in the past eight seasons, and three of those losses came at the hands of quarterbacks who are now making a living in the NFL.

The last one to do it was Ben Roethlisberger, the former star at Findlay High and Miami who has the Pittsburgh Steelers on a winning streak. He engineered a 27-13 Miami win in Toledo in 2002.

In 1999, it was Louisiana Tech's Tim Rattay, now with the San Francisco 49ers, who beat the Rockets in the Glass Bowl.

The year before that, Daunte Culpepper, now the starter for the Minnesota Vikings, led Central Florida to a win in Toledo.
