Spring football practice for the University of Toledo gets under way today with a 3:15

p.m. session at the Glass Bowl.

The spring practice season culminates with a fi nal practice on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

It s great to get back out on the fi eld, said coach Tom Amstutz, who enters his seventh season as head coach with a 50-25 record. Spring football is a good time to experiment and evaluate our goals.

We will be re-setting our goals and having great competition to re-set the depth chart.

Our depth chart is wide open going into the spring.

We will also be looking at some, new improved schemes on both sides of the ball, and looking to improve some of the schemes that worked well for us last year.

There will be no spring game this year, but the practice on Friday, April 13 will be open to the public and will feature a controlled scrimmage. All other practices are closed.

The Rockets return 18 starters from last season s team, which finished 5-7, 3-5 in MAC play.

Among those 18 starters are four first-team All-MAC players: senior running back Jalen Parmele, senior tight end Chris Hopkins, senior offensive tackle John Greco, and sophomore safety Barry Church.

Toledo opens its season at home on Sept. 1 vs. Purdue. The MAC opener is the following week at Central Michigan.
