DeKALB, Ill. Freshman guard Naama Shafir led a balanced University of Toledo attack as the Rockets beat Mid-American Conference foe NorthernIllinois 72-68 last night in women s basketball.
Shafir had 17 points while Jessica Williams had 15 points, Tanika Mays had 15 points and five assists and Courtney Ingersoll scored 10 points.
The Rockets improved to16-10 overall and 10-3 in the MAC West.
The Huskies slipped to 13-13 and 8-5.
Toledo prevailed despite being outrebounded 40-25 with Northern Illinois Aileen Rossouw grabbing 10. The Huskies had a 13-7 advantage in offensive rebounds with Rossouw leading the way with six.
Ingersoll paced the Rockets with six boards, and was the team leader with three offensive rebounds.
An area of advantage for Toledo was turnovers, as the Rockets forced 25 and committed only 17.
Both teams shot well. Toledo was 28 of 59 overall, including 8-of-14 on 3-pointers while Northern Illinois hit 24 of 50 shots, including 7-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Each team finished with 12 assists.
