UT's Kertesz finishes 10th in NCAA championship race

JACKSONVILLE, Fla —University of Toledo junior and Central Catholic graduate Emma Kertesz finished in 10th place in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary championship meet Thursday night, qualifying her for the NCAA Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa on June 7.

The top 12 runners in two regionals qualified for nationals. Kertesz posted a time of 34:36.34. She will earn All-America first team honors with a top eight finish and second team honors with a finish between ninth and 16th. She is assured of securing no less than honorable mention status.

Two of Kertesz’s teammates also ran in the 10K but did not make it into the top 12. Senior Ari Fisher finished 19th (35:11.13), while sophomore Megan Vogelsong came in 29th (36:13.43).

Junior Katie Bollin, a Bedford product, finished in 44th place in the long jump with a top leap of 18 feet, 1 1/2 inches.
