The University of Toledo men's basketball team will open the season with nine of 10 games played on the road, including five straight to start the year.

The Rockets, who released their schedule Wednesday, open at Loyola on Nov. 9 to begin a Midwest trip that includes stops at Minnesota and Northern Iowa.

UT will open its home slate Nov. 28 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Mid-American Conference season begins Jan. 9 at Kent State. No longer will cross-division games be played in succession; they're now sprinkled in. The Bowling Green game, to be played at Savage Arena, is Jan. 26 --- a Saturday --- at 7 p.m.

To satisfy NCAA sanctions, UT will play three fewer games than a full schedule. The Rockets apparently chose to take that penalty all at once and will be idle for three weeks after playing at Eastern Illinois on Dec. 8. An exhibition game at home against Siena Heights is set for Dec. 18.

Other highlights include back-to-back match ups in early December at Cleveland State and at Detroit --- two of the best mid-major programs in the region.

WOMEN

Two tournaments at Savage Arena highlight the University of Toledo women's basketball schedule.

The Rockets will host SIU, Edwardsville and either Southern or St. Bonaventure on Dec. 1 and 2 as part of the Glass City Tournament. Evansville, the former school of UT coach Tricia Cullop, and Prairie View A&M or Hampton will play the Rockets Dec. 20 and 21 at the Toledo Invite.

The season kicks off Nov. 9 at home against Arkansas State. UT will play in a tournament in Reno, Nv. later that month.

A match up at home against Central Michigan opens the Mid-American Conference season on Jan. 10. The Rockets will then visit Bowling Green three days later, on a Sunday. No longer are cross-division games played in succession; they're now mixed in with the rest of the league slate.
