UT women's basketball team picked to win MAC title

The University of Toledo women's basketball team is the preseason favorite to capture the Mid-American Conference tournament title by the league's coaches and select media members.

The Rockets garnered 16 of 32 votes, topping Central Michigan (12) and Bowling Green (two).

Guards Naama Shafir and Andola Dortch and center Yolanda Richardson were named to the preseason West team for the Rockets, who were picked to win the division with 24 votes to CMU's six.

CMU's Crystal Bradford and EMU's Natachia Watkins also received preseason West accolades.

East favorite Miami picked up 16 votes, edging Bowling Green's 13. BG's Alexis Rogers and Chrissy Steffen were named to the preseason East squad, joining Miami's Courtney Osborn and Kristen Olowinski, and Akron's Rachel Tecca.
