Rockets topped E. Wash. 33-21

FINAL

University of Toledo overcame the loss of quarterback Terrance Owens to beat Eastern Washington, 33-21.

The defense forced seven straight stops after Owens went down in the first quarter to a knee injury.

Replacement quarterback Logan Woodside led two second half TD drives in excess of 80 yards. He finished 14 of 24 passing for 185 yards and a touchdown. He was not intercepted or sacked.

 

THIRD QUARTER

The University of Toledo defense has forced stops on eight straight drives and the Rockets lead Eastern Washington, 23-14, entering the fourth quarter.

Logan Woodside and Bernard Reedy hooked up for an 81-yard touchdown strike, the game's first touchdown since the first quarter.

 

HALFTIME

Quarterback Terrance Owens is out for the game with a left knee injury, but the University of Toledo leads Eastern Washington at halftime 16-14.

Owens suffered the injury on a first quarter rushing attempt. His replacement, true freshman Logan Woodside, is 5 of 11 for 13 yards. Woodside has 15 rushing yards.

Woodside led the Rockets to a field goal on the drive that which he took over for Owens. That field goal, of 23 yards, put Jeremiah Detmer in a tie with Alex Steigerwald for most consecutive field goals in program history with 23. Detmer missed a 35-yarder to end the half, snapping the streak.

Toledo's David Fluellen has 131 yards on 14 carries.

 

FIRST QUARTER

Quarterback Terrance Owens is hurt, and the University of Toledo's chances against Eastern Washington now rest in the hands of a true freshman.

Owens left on a golf cart in the first quarter after injuring what appeared to be his left knee getting tackled on run.

The Rockets trail their FCS opponent 14-13.

Woodside entered the game and converted a fourth-and-5 to Justin Olack before the end of the quarter.

UT's touchdowns have come on David Fluellen runs of 44 and 12 yards.
