Toledo falls to Akron 31-29

AKRON — Toledo fell to Akron 31-29 to close the regular season with three Mid-American Conference losses for the first time since 2009.

Marc Remy ran for a 3-yard touchdown with 59 seconds to go but a two-point conversion pass to Justin Olack fell incomplete.

Akron recovered the onside kick for its third straight win.

Toledo (7-5, 5-3) had an extra point blocked earlier in the quarter following Bernard Reedy's 28-yard TD catch.

3RD QUARTER

AKRON — Toledo trails Akron 24-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

Akron went up 24-10 on an 8-yard pass on fourth down from Kyle Pohl to Jon Root. Toledo responded with a 14-play, 77-yard drive culminating in Dwight Macon's second TD catch of the day, this one from 12 yards out.

Toledo ended the quarter with the ball at Akron's 40-yard line.

 

HALFTIME

AKRON — Akron converted a fake punt from its own 16-yard line and drove for the go-ahead score before halftime.

Jawon Chisholm's 2-yard run with 43 seconds to go put the Zips in front 17-10.

Both teams traded short field goals in the second quarter.

 

FIRST QUARTER

AKRON — Toledo and Akron are tied at 7 after the first quarter at InfoCision Stadium.

The Rockets turned a fumble into a touchdown, marching 43 yards capped by a Dwight Macon 9-yard catch in the end zone. Jordan Martin stripped a receiver of the ball and Junior Sylvestre recovered to create the short field.

Akron tied the score on a 19-yard pass from Kyle Pohl to L.T. Smith.

UT running backs David Fluellen and Damion Jones-Moore are out with injuries.
