Rockets fall in tourney championship contest

MORAGA, Calif. — The University of Toledo women’s basketball team dropped an 81-57 decision to Saint Mary’s today in the championship game of the SMC Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic in McKeon Pavilion.

UT (3-3) shot a season-low 30.9 percent (21-of-68) from the field, including 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from three-point range to suffer its worst setback in two seasons.

The Rockets also registered a season-high 17 turnovers, compared to 12 assists, marking the first time this year they had more miscues than helpers.

Inma Zanoguera was the lone UT player in double figures with 12 points. Zanoguera has now scored in double digits in each of the last 10 contests, dating back to last season.

Janice Monakana was Toledo’s next highest scorer with nine points off the bench, followed by Ana Capotosto with seven.

The Gaels (7-0) put four players in double figures, led by Danielle Mauldin’s 21 points and 18 boards.

The home team also received a double-double from Jackie Nared as she scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds.
