Toledo women start fast, cruise past St. Bonaventure

ALLEGANY, N.Y — The University of Toledo women’s basketball team got off to a dominant start and eased to a 58-39 win Monday against St. Bonaventure.

The Rockets opened the game on a 17-0 run, capped by Olivia Cunningham’s layup with 3:14 left in the first quarter.

For the game, Kaayla McIntyre scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to lead Toledo (6-1), while Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott chipped in with 13 points.

Danielle Migliore scored 11 points to lead St. Bonaventure (4-5).

Mikaela Boyd opened the scoring with a layup, and Bravo-Harriott had seven points in the opening run for Toledo. McIntyre made two free throws and Cunningham scored the final six points of the 17-0 surge.

The Rockets defense was dominant in holding the Bonnies to just 27 percent from the field and 13 percent from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Toledo shot 39 percent from the field and 24 percent from beyond the arc.

Toledo got 24 points from its bench, led by eight from Cunningham, seven from Jada Woody, six from Sara Rokkanen, and three from Tanaya Beacham.

The Rockets led 35-19 at halftime and outscored the Bonnies 12-9 in the third. The teams each scored 11 points in the fourth.

Toledo play Wednesday at Duquesne before heading back home Saturday to take on Cleveland State at Savage Arena.
