Victory over Fort Wayne pushes Toledo into 6th place in ECHL Eastern Conference


FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Toledo captain Kyle Rogers scored the game-winning goal with four minutes, 32 seconds remaining to give the Walleye a 3-2 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday.

The win puts Toledo (36-26-9) into sixth place in the ECHL Eastern Conference with 81 points and one game remaining.

The goal was Rogers 14th of the season and was assisted on by Aaron Bogosian, who scored his 13th goal of the season in the first period.

Also scoring for Toledo was Ben Youds, his sixth with the Walleye. Kent Simpson stopped 26 shots to get the win for the Walleye.

Matt Syroczynski and Jamie Milam scored for the Komets (32-34-4) while Charlie Effinger finished with 24 saves.

The Walleye are one point ahead of Greenville and South Carolina in the conference standings, but both have at least one game in hand.

The best the Walleye could finish is in a tie for fifth with Elmira (83 points with two games remaining).

FISH TALES: Tyler Pilmore, a Northview High School graduate and a former member of the Toledo Cherokee junior team was signed off the waiver wire on Wednesday by the Walleye.

The 24-year-old Pilmore, a forward who also played club hockey at Ohio University, played six games this season for Wheeling, registering two penalty minutes and a minus-4 rating.

A Sylvania native, Pilmore is listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds.

Also, the Walleye released Jimmy Spratt. The former Bowling Green State University goaltender (2005-09) — who won 27 games in four seasons for the Falcons — played in one game this season for Toledo, a 3-2 overtime loss to Kalamazoo.
