Fort Wayne rallies for 5-3 win in Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Walleye twice led Fort Wayne by one goal tonight but the Komets rallied for a 5-3 home win.

Toledo held leads in the first and second periods but the game was tied entering the third. Fort Wayne's Kenton Miller tallied the game winning goal with 12:29 left.

Trevor Parkes, who had three points in Toledo's 3-2 win over Kalamazoo on Monday, started the scoring for the Walleye near the midpoint of the first period. Louis-Marc Aubry and Joe Sova drew the assists on Parkes' team-high 15th goal that tied it at 1.

Just 26 seconds later, Toledo took a 2-1 lead on David Gilbert's goal. Parkes and Kyle Rogers assisted on Gilbert's sixth of the season.

However, the Komets tied it back up at 2 late in the first period.

Kevin Lynch then put the Walleye up 3-2 with a goal on an assist from Aubry early in the second period. But Fort Wayne knotted it again less than a minute later.

Walleye goalie Hannu Toivonen (4-8-0), who made his 10th consecutive start, finished with 34 saves.

Toivonen was pulled for an extra attacker with just over a minute left and the Komets added an empty net goal with 46 seconds remaining.

Toledo was outshot 39-28.

The Walleye next host Reading on Friday before playing at Kalamazoo on Saturday.
