KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Mac Carruth’s return to the ECHL was a rough one for the goaltender in a 6-3 Walleye loss to the Wings.

The opening-night starter this season was sent down from the American Hockey League’s Rockford Ice Hogs before the game and allowed five goals on 31 shots, including two in the first period.

Toledo (10-17-3) got a second-period goal from Louis-Marc Aubrey’s fifth goal of the season to cut the deficit to one, but Kalamazoo (16-11-1) fired right back with another pair of goals to boost the lead to 4-1 midway through the stanza.

Ryan Flanigan’s second goal of the season came as a response 45 seconds later, but Toledo could never get closer than two goals the rest of the way as David Gilbert scored his seventh of the season in the third period to make it 5-3 Kalamazoo.

Yannick Veilleux scored twice for Kalamazoo while adding an assist. Elgin Reid chipped in two goals as well.

Jordan Martin made 39 stops as Toledo outshot the Wings, 42-31.

The Walleye went 1 for 4 on the power play.
