Walleye win 2nd straight with 4-3 victory at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — Walleye captain Kyle Rogers scored two goals on Friday night, including the game winner in the waning moments as Toledo knocked off host Cincinnati 4-3 for their second straight road win at the North Division leader.

Rogers scored his ninth of the season to give the Walleye a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. He added his 10th with 1:50 left in regulation.

David Gilbert and Aaron Bogosian also scored. Gilbert also had an assist.

Goalie Mac Carruth (8-10-0) stopped 23 shots. Toledo outshot the Cyclones 38-26.

After Rogers' first goal, Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Gilbert tied it up midway through the second period with a power-play goal. Bogosian scored shorthanded to give the Walleye (16-24-3) a 3-2 lead early in the third.

The Cyclones (26-15-2) tied it again 5:36 into the third before Rogers scored the decisive goal on assists from Brett Perlini and Gilbert.

“The key tonight was smart, simple hockey,” Walleye coach Nick Vitucci said. “We had another strong performance in this game. It was a very nice win for us tonight against a very good team.”

TRANSACTION: Prior to the game, Toledo signed F John May, who has appeared in 29 games for the Walleye since the 2009-10 season.
