Walleye beat Cincinnati in shootout

CINCINNATI — Matt Abercrombie was lucky No. 7 for the Walleye today as he scored the second shootout goal for Toledo while goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped the final six Cincinnati attempts in a 5-4 shootout win.

It was the second win in a row for the Walleye (18-34-4) after losing 11 straight. It was also the second in a row over Cincinnati (32-21-5).

Kevin Lynch led the way for the Walleye with two goals in regulation while David Gilbert and Jesse Messier tallied markers.

Maxim Shalunov scored the first shootout goal for Toledo as well.

Toivonen finished with 37 saves while counterpart Joe Howe made 24 stops.

The Walleye were 1 for 5 on the power play.
