Walleye fall 5-3 in road loss at Wheeling, W.Va.

WHEELING, W.Va. — Two third-period goals in the middle of the frame sunk the Toledo Walleye tonight in a 5-3 loss to host Wheeling.

Toledo (19-39-5) tied the game 24 seconds into the final period on a goal from Travis Novak, but Wheeling (34-25-6) struck back about eight minutes later with a goal from Tyler Fernandez, followed by a goal by Max MacKay three minutes later.

Hannu Toivonen had 28 saves in the loss. Also scoring for Toledo was Ryan Flanigan and Matt Abercrombie.

The Walleye have lost six of their last seven contests.
