Hockey club to open season at home, host first ECHL outdoor game

The Toledo Walleye will open next season at home when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Toledo, which has averaged over 6,000 fans at the Huntington Center four times in the last five years, will host Eastern Conference champion Cincinnati in its home opener.

The ECHL released its 2014-15 scheduled today and the league's 27th season begins on Oct. 17 with six games being played in six states from Florida to Alaska.

The Walleye will host the first outdoor game in ECHL history. Toledo will play two games at Fifth Third Field in downtown as part of a week-long Winterfest. The Walleye will host Kalamazoo on Saturday, Dec. 27 and Fort Wayne on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Toledo's first road game of the year is on Oct. 24 at the ECHL’s newest member, the Indianapolis Fuel.

After opening the season at home, Toledo's next five games are all on the road.
