Weather service predicts strong winds
9/29/2011A gale warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Cleveland for western Lake Erie between 4 a.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday.
Winds from the southwest were expected to increase to 40 miles per hour Thursday night and become northwest on Friday as a cold front pushes through.
The weather service said waves will build between 10 and 14 feet through Friday night. Weather forecasters issued a small-craft advisory, which would remain in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday. Inexperienced mariners were warned to stay in port.
The Toledo-area forecast calls for rain and showers Friday and Saturday, with temperatures in the low 50s Friday and peaking at 49 degrees Saturday afternoon.
Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s. Skies will be mostly sunny Monday and Tuesday with a chance of temperatures reaching 71 on Tuesday, the weather service said.
The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac reported that an isolated storm system that struck southern Monroe County Wednesday afternoon produced a tornado that caused minor damage to a garage roof in the Village Meadows subdivision on Temperance Road just east of Lewis Avenue on the outskirts of Temperance.
The weather service said a wooden play structure also blew over and sustained minor damage.
The tornado, reported at 3:40 p.m., produced winds of 60 miles an hour, the weather service said.
The tornado was initially reported as a funnel cloud that was part of a cluster of rain showers.
