Toledo’s second straight day of 80-degree weather has shattered the old record high for March 20.

The temperature at Toledo Express Airport reached 82 degrees at 2:14 p.m. The old record for the date, set in 1921, of 74 degrees was eclipsed sometime between 11 a.m. and noon, when the mercury at the airport rose from 72 to 77 degrees.

Monday’s high was 81, besting that day’s previous record of 78, also set in 1921. Forecasters expect a third straight day of 80-plus temperatures on Wednesday as a record March heat wave continues throughout the eastern United States.

The highest temperature ever recorded in March in Toledo is 83, set on March 24, 1910. Before this year, the earliest 80-degree reading in Toledo in any year was an 82-degree high on March 22, 1938.

The normal high and low temperatures for March 20 in Toledo are 49 and 30. The low temperature Tuesday morning at the airport was 55, which would be a typical morning low in early June.
