The Birds of Chicago — former Toledoan Jeremy Lindsay and Canadian Allison Russell — return to the city for a concert Friday night with some happy personal news:

After being a couple for several years, the two are now engaged to be married. The band last played in Toledo in November and their shows are highly recommended.

The Birds self-titled debut CD last year features their soaring vocal harmonies and Americana music arrangements that encompass pop, soul, country, and the intricacies of a capella and doo-wop. Based in Chicago, they tour relentlessly and will be playing in western states this summer after recording a live album later this month.

Friday's concert will be at Mainstreet, 141 Main St., in East Toledo and music starts at 10 p.m. with an opening band followed by the Birds. Lindsay also is in the band JT and the Clouds and various members of that group often join him and Russell for their live shows, especially in Toledo because guitarist Dan Abu-Asi also is a native of the city who moved to Chicago.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Information: 419-269-9255 or innovationconcerts.com.
