FAYETTE - The Gorham Fayette Local Board of Education moved its new school building ahead another step this month.

The school board last week unanimously awarded contracts to the lowest bidders in each construction area for which it had advertised, although most were over the board's estimates for the work.

Receiving contracts were:

•Mosser Construction Inc. with a bid of $8.3 million, which was the lowest of four bids for general trades. The estimate was $7.7 million.

•Woolace Electric Inc. with a bid of $1.7 million, which was the lowest of two bids for electrical work. The estimate was $1.5 million.

•L.R. Babcock Inc., which was the lowest bidder for both plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Its bid for plumbing, which was one of two received, was $558,000. The estimate was $721,000. The bid for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, one of three received, was $1.3 million. The estimate was $1.8 million.

•Shambaugh & Son LP, which was the lowest bidder for fire suppression with a bid of $253,000. The school board later added to the workload, taking the bid to $269,257. The estimate was $245,000.
