Sylvania gateway plans ready

6/14/2007

Plans for Sylvania's proposed gateway corridor project will be unveiled at an open house next week.

The meeting is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Northview High School cafeteria, said Jeffrey Ballmer, Sylvania's director of public service.

Representatives of JJR LLC of Ann Arbor, which the city has hired for consulting and design, will present information about proposed enhancements for the Monroe and Main street corridors.

"JJR has come up with short-range, intermediate, and long-range plans," said Mr. Ballmer, who noted that public comfrom previous meetings were taken into consideration when the firm drew up the plans. The city is paying up to $58,000 to JJR for its services.

The gateway planning panel, formed in the fall, will make a recommendation to council, which has the final say.

Streetscape enhancements could include landscaping, paving, lighting, and special gateway elements.

The plan aims to offer a detailed vision that guides civic investment in downtown and nearby areas while attracting businesses and residents.

Focus areas include the central business district; the civic campus area that includes the municipal building, Sylvania Municipal Court, and the Sylvania library, and the Monroe Street corridor.
