Student of the Week: Marie Hu, Southview High School

Marie Hu

Marie Hu, a senior from Sylvania, plans to major in biochemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, or Duke University. Her career goal is to become a biomedical research scientist. Marie has a 4.75 grade-point average and enjoys biology and calculus.

She is a recipient of the Ohio Academy of Science Outstanding Chemistry Award, and is an Advanced Placement Scholar and a National Merit Semifinalist. Marie received superior ratings at the state and district science fairs, earned regional and state science Olympiad medals, and has been recognized by the Lucas County Educational Service Center for outstanding achievement in mathematics.

She is president and assistant concert mistress of the orchestra and a member of the science research team, the French Club, and the National Honor Society. Marie is a senate commissioner and Interact volunteer and committee member.

She is a member of the Toledo International Youth Orchestra and just recently returned from a trip to China.

"Marie is an incredible student and person," said Penny Cobau, her teacher. "She has an enthusiasm for learning and a mature work ethic and sense of character."

Marie is the daughter of Xiche Hong and Hu Xiao.
