SPECIAL TO THE BLADE

Harroun Community Park, on the southern edge of downtown Sylvania, likely will remain a quiet preserve in the midst of a growing area, according to Jim Speck, director of planning and construction for the Metroparks of the Toledo Area.

Mr. Speck told Sylvania City Council that a large majority of people who filled out cards at a community meeting seeking suggestions for the best use of the park rated the park's natural environment as its most important feature and one they most wanted available in the future.

The Metroparks system has become a partner with the city in the park's planning and design, in conjunction with its operation of the Lathrop House.

Although plans call for programs at the house concerning its history, much of the rest of the park is to remain generally in its natural state.
