2M-gallon water tank installed in Fossil Park

Sylvania’s new water tower had its 2 million-gallon water tank installed on Friday. Chicago Bridge & Iron, which is heading the project, hoisted up the tank to the top of the 140-foot high tower that morning.

The project, with an estimated cost of $2.7 million, began more than a year ago and is expected to be finished by Nov. 1. The tower in Fossil Park will store water for high-volume use days, said Kevin Aller, the city’s service director. The tank will save the community on pumping costs, ensure there is enough water to control fires, and other community needs.

Some residents had objected to the large size of the new tower, calling it the world’s largest.
