BOWLING GREEN Students, faculty, and staff at Bowling Green State University will mark the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks today with a series of events, including a speech from a man who survived the destruction of the World Trade Center towers.
Earl Johnson, a financial services worker who was on the 51st floor of the North Tower when the attacks occurred, will speak at 9:25 p.m. in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Mr. Johnson, who lives in Bainbridge Island, Wash., is the author of Stairwell to Heaven: A 9/11 World Trade Center Survivor s Story of Escape.
Commemorations at the university will begin at 9:11 a.m. with a campus-wide moment of silence and the placement of nearly 3,000 American flags around campus in the victims honor. The film United 93 will be shown, and a ceremony will honor firefighters, police officers, and the armed forces.
A candlelight vigil is planned for 10:15 p.m. in the Union Oval.
For its part, the University of Toledo will mark the anniversary today with a moment of silence at noon, university officials said.
