DUBLIN, Ohio — Fast-food chain Wendy’s Co. is re-entering the Japanese market, which it left in 2009, with plans to open 100 restaurants in the next five years.

The Dublin, Ohio, company estimates a potential of about 700 restaurants over the long term, according to a statement.

The Wendy’s 29-year history in Japan ended when restaurant operator Zensho Co. decided to drop its franchise contract. The chain had 71 stores in Japan.
