PATNA, India — A lawmaker says a speeding train has run over a group of pilgrims, killing at least 20 people in eastern India.

Parliament member Dinesh Chandra Yadav said the pilgrims were crossing the rail tracks near Dhamara, a small town in Bihar state. Forty other people were injured in the accident that occurred early today.

Yadav said angry mobs pulled out the train driver and beat him to death. They then got all the passengers out of the train and set some coaches on fire.
