Woman falls off UK cathedral, rescued by copter
4/29/2014LONDON — England is known for its beautiful old cathedrals — but they can be dangerous as well.
That was the case today when a tour of Wells Cathedral in Somerset went horribly wrong. A rescue spokesman said a 68-year-old woman fell about 20 feet (6 meters), landing between two turrets roughly 150 feet (46 meters) off the ground.
A spokesman said the woman was part of a tour group looking at the higher parts of the cathedral who slipped and fell.
She had to be winched to safety and airlifted by helicopter as a crowd gathered below. She was taken to a Bristol hospital for treatment of arm and pelvic injuries.
The popular cathedral is located 125 miles (200 kilometers) west of London.
