COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Danish police say they have charged three men with the attempted smuggling and distribution of 200 kilograms (440 pounds) of cocaine in Denmark, worth at least 43.5 million kroner ($8 million), in an operation with U.S. agents.

Police spokesman Ole Madsen says the suspects were German, Colombian and Danish, but did not provide more information on their identities.

Madsen said today that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration helped Danish officers track the movements and plans of the suspects, which led to their arrest on Dec. 5 arrest in Denmark.

The trial is set to begin on Sep. 10. If found guilty, they face up 16 years in prison. All have pleaded innocent.
