Tune in to a tuna cutting at Kyoto Ka

Kyoto Ka owner and chef Joe Cho will be hosting a special, exclusive dinner on Jan. 24.

From 5:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 24, Kyoto Ka, 6801 W. Central Ave., is hosting a special dinner featuring fish as fresh as can be: chef/owner Joe Cho will be slicing, dicing, and filleting a 140-pound bluefin tuna before your very eyes, displaying expertise and precision as he prepares the evening’s entrée. The exceptional meal will also include premium Norwegian salmon and imported Japanese wagyu beef as appetizers, as well as a sake tasting.

Steaks on the Grill at Whitehouse Legion

From 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and on the first Saturday of each subsequent month, the Whitehouse American Legion Post 384 invites the public to Steaks on the Grill, a steak dinner with all the fixin’s. The menu includes steak, baked potato, salad, rolls with butter, relishes, and coffee for $13 for adults and $12.50 for seniors. Chicken chunks and fries cost $4.50.

Youth orchestra 
fund-raiser at Panera

From 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17, head to Panera, 4050 Talmadge Rd., for a delicious fund-raiser benefiting the Toledo International Youth Orchestra. Just bring the flyer (available to print from facebook.com/events/2014532182092003) or show an electronic version of it when you place your order, and a portion of the proceeds from your dinner will be donated to the group.

The TIYO uses contributions to support its mission of “bridging cultures through music.” In June, members traveled to Ireland; in 2018, they will head to South Africa. On these ventures, the musicians, ages 12 to 21, work with international orchestras, offer free concerts, learn about other countries, and make friends.

Zoup! raising funds for No Kid Hungry

Throughout January, which is National Soup Month, Zoup! pledges to support No Kid Hungry, an organization dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger through a variety of community-based programs. As an encouragement to donate, each customer who contributes $2 or more to the charity (online or on-site) will receive a coupon good for one 8-ounce cup of soup. Zoup! has set a goal of $100,000 for this fund-raiser.

“One in six children in this country struggles with hunger,” said Eric Ersher, founder and CEO of Zoup!, in a statement. Diana Hovey, senior vice president of the charity, said that everyone, including “private citizens, businesses, policymakers, and nonprofits,” can help “to ensure that every child in America has access to the nutritious food they need, every day.”
