Area classical music lovers will be busy this week traveling from concert to concert in what shapes up to be a full slate of events, several of which have a holiday theme.
Here's a rundown:
•Toledo native David Hattner, a clarinetist and conductor in the New York area, will be in Toledo Saturday for a free public recital of chamber music for winds at 2:30 p.m. in Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe St. On the program will be works by Ferenc Farkas, Edvard Grieg, and Charles Gounod.
In part, Hattner said, the event is in celebration of his father, Louis Hattner, for his 80th birthday. But it's also a chance to perform with Toledo Symphony clarinetists Georg Klaas and his wife and musical partner, Jocelyn Langworthy, as well as other local musicians.
"It has been so long since I performed there," said Hattner, from the Milwaukee airport, where he was stranded briefly on his way home from a gig with the Kansas City Symphony. He left Toledo at age 15 to finish high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Hattner has a music degree from Northwestern University. He is principal clarinet of the Princeton Chamber Symphony and conductor of the Camerata Atlantica.
