A fierce blast of snow, ice, and strong winds caused havoc throughout northwest Ohio Saturday, although the brunt of the winter storm struck the southern and eastern portions of the state. Level 3 snow emergencies, barring all but non-emergency traffic, were issued in Sandusky, Seneca, and Crawford counties Saturday morning and some roads were blocked by blowing snow and drifts.

Darlington Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Ltd., a longtime nursing home in West Toledo, has filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors. The facility is at 2735 Darlington Rd. but lists an Elyria mailing address. It said it had between $1 million and $10 million in debts in a Chapter 11 petition filed this week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo.

A jury last night found a Lima man guilty of murder for punching a 2-year-old girl so severely she died. Daniel Stiles, 30, was convicted of murder, attempted murder, and four counts of felonious assault following a four-day trial in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Judge Jeffrey Reed then sentenced Stiles to the maximum possible sentence of 57 years to life in prison.
