3 area projects receive Ohio Third Frontier research grants
COLUMBUS — Three Toledo-area energy projects were awarded Third Frontier Research grants yesterday by the state Controlling Board.
Receiving the largest amount, $997,000, is Xunlight 26 Solar LLC, a spinoff by University of Toledo professors. The funds are to be applied to improving its thin-film cadmium telluride photovoltaic modules in its work with UT and Akron Polymer Systems, the state said.
Separately, UT is to receive a $250,000 advanced-fuel-cell award to advance part of biomass fermentation for ethanol production with SuGanit Systems. Also, the board authorized a $900,000 fuel-cell grant to American Trim in Lima to produce fuel-cell bipolar plates.
