2 UT studies focus on environment

Two research projects at the University of Toledo are looking for answers to help alleviate environmental problems.

In creating an Environmental Remediation and Restoration Experimental Park, researchers plan to study the use of plants and wetlands to remove pollution from the environment.

And the university is trying pervious pavement for parking areas that would allow water to pass through it and into the ground, looking at the potential to reduce flooding concerns that the Toledo and Findlay area have seen in recent years.

Both research projects will receive attention with events today.

UT President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs and U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) will be at the Stranahan Arboretum during the celebration of the environmental park from 1 to 4 p.m.

And a parking area near the Glass Bowl on the main campus will be poured about 2:30 p.m. with the new pervious pavement, which is placed on top of sand and gravel to further help drainage and filtration of water.
