OSHA levies $20,000 fine on The Andersons

A well-known local business conglomerate has been hit with nearly $20,000 in fines by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for placing workers in dangerous positions without proper safety precautions.

The Andersons Inc. was fined $19,775 for a serious violation of OSHA regulations after inspectors at the company’s Maumee rail car facility June 19 observed workers without proper equipment and precautions working inside a hopper rail car. Inspectors found seven serious violations, inspectors said. A company spokesman could not be reached for comment.
