Businesses Look to Owens Customized Training for a Helping Hand
Programs like Owens Community College’s Workforce and Community Services customized training can help employers help their employees realize their potential, increase productivity and achieve the competiveness that’ll keep them in the market for years to come.
For many area businesses, the beauty of Owens customized training is that it’s a complete package: specialized training, polished presenters, measurable results and, in some cases, grant funding and college credit options.
“Not only were WCS’ services cost-effective, our representative did a super job of getting us a state grant, which paid for half of our training costs,” said Roel Galvan, Director, Employee Relations, Sauder Woodworking Co. “Their willingness to help, give a phone call, reach out, follow up and make sure the customer was getting the right product at the right time was outstanding.”
Sauder Woodworking Co., a repeat customer, used WCS’ leadership training programs most recently in the fall of 2007 and the spring of 2008. Several years ago, Sauder took advantage of basic and advanced supervisory training programs.
Sauder’s customized training program this time around consisted of 15 different training modules focusing on a variety of topics, including conflict resolution, ethics in the workplace, handling employee issues such as discipline and harassment, and enhancing interviewing skills.
“We see this training as a benefit, not only short-term, but long-term as well,” Galvan said. “The feedback we’ve received indicate that the training was a success.”
TolTest, Inc. representatives are also pleased with the results of programs conducted by WCS.
“We are currently working with WCS to plan a second phase of training,” said Andrea M. Gurcsik, SPHR, Manager, Human Resources, TolTest, Inc. “We are fortunate to have this valuable resource in our community.”
TolTest learned about WCS’ customized training services after searching for advanced Microsoft Program training.
“We saw a need to increase the knowledge, skills and abilities of our project managers using MS Project,” Gurcsik said. “WCS provided customized on-site training at our corporate offices, attended by our staff from all over the world. To date, we have seen an increase in the use of MS Project and a heightened skill level among our project managers. This training has allowed us to exceed our clients' expectations in the area of project scheduling.”
By working with TolTest to uncover their needs, WCS was able to tailor a comprehensive training plan to increase the skill level within the organization. WCS was also able to put TolTest in touch with funding through the Ohio Board of Regents, which paid for half the cost of the class.
Owens Community College has two campuses located at 30335 Oregon Road, Toledo, and 3200 Bright Road, Findlay. For more information about WCS’ customized training services, call 567-661-7319.
