Making an Art of Success

Business matters. Now more than ever. Without a thriving and innovative business
community, commerce fails, incomes falter, the fabric of cooperative coexistence
that weaves us together pulls apart. As you page through this special edition of
Business Matters, I think you will be heartened to learn that despite the difficult
times we all face today, the economic health of our region is in capable hands. A
host of businesses is rising above the financial chaos to offer fresh products, services, and viewpoints.

There is a Chinese proverb that states “To open a shop is easy. To keep it open is
an art.” The stories and advertising you see within these pages paint a picture of
companies that have turned success into an art form. Thanks to them, our region
is experiencing real growth and continued expansion. How did they do it? By not
striving so much to get ahead of others, but to get ahead of themselves; to break their own records; to outstrip their yesterdays and take solid aim at tomorrow.

We owe them a lot, these successful businesses. They are spearheaded by leaders who had a vision, articulated it clearly, believed in it passionately and pursued it relentlessly. As a result, they helped create a strong, proud community poised for even greater success in the future.

Please help The Blade salute these companies and show them that, in Greater
Toledo, business — their business — matters more than ever.
