BOWLING GREEN - Dozens of teddy bears peer out of the downtown storefront window of the Behavioral Connections' Connection Center, a cuddly public reminder of a donation drive to collect the stuffed toys.
The teddy bears have been collected all month at the mental health center, 194 South Main St., for emergency personnel to share with children at the scene of dangerous situations in Wood County.
Some bears will cruise with cops until they find themselves in the arms of a child involved in a police matter. Others will have a seat beside a firefighter or paramedic until offered as comfort to a child affected by a house fire or medical emergency.
"The goal was to fill the Main Street window to the ceiling with hundreds of bears," Connection Center client Carol Beckley said.
Since starting the drive last month, the group is well on its way to reaching its goal. Bears filled more than half of the window earlier this week.
The bears will be counted before being distributed to the emergency crews next week. Permanent Link
