Riga driver killed, passenger hurt as vehicle hits a tree

ADRIAN - A Riga, Mich., man was killed early Saturday when the car he was driving crashed into a tree southeast of here in Lenawee County's Palmyra Township, the sheriff's office said.

Alejandro Francisco Garza, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene on Palmyra Road south of Deerfield Road.

Mr. Garza was southbound on Palmyra about 5:15 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the north side of the road, sheriff's deputies said.

A passenger, Justin Conger, 21, of Samaria, Mich., was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was in serious condition Saturday, a hospital spokesman said.
