A man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at a public park says he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he was attempting to take control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky's Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Mr. Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.
The man who drove his 20-year-old Mustang from Napoleon, Ohio, to Las Vegas and back last year on 39 gallons of fuel will open his first manufacturing facility Monday to allow others to get 110 miles per gallon. Doug Pelmear, owner of Horse Power Sales.net Inc. and Hp2G LLC, will hold an open house Monday morning in the idle 100,000-square-foot factory he has leased in Wauseon to begin manufacturing his revolutionary engine. The factory, on the Fulton Industries Inc. campus in Wauseon, will be tooled to initially turn out 20 of Mr. Pelmear's custom engines per day with one shift of 25 workers.
Officials said they have found "an important lead" in the investigation into a high number of cancer cases in children in eastern Sandusky County. A demographic study of the area confirms there is a "cancer cluster" and hints it could have been caused by a past environmental contaminant. Robert Indian, chief of the Ohio Department of Health's comprehensive cancer control program, released the results of that study yesterday morning pinpointing the cluster to a 5 to 7-mile radius that includes all of Clyde and most of Fremont in eastern Sandusky County.
A week after the disappearance of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan, Monroe County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a third man on unrelated charges and located two boys they hoped would have information in the case. Arrested was James Easter, 64, who had been questioned by police, then dropped off at his Oak Street home about 5 a.m. Saturday.

Northwood police issued five citations at a sobriety checkpoint set up in the 2500 block of Woodville Road from 10 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday. Officers cited three drivers for not having an operator's license, one for not wearing a seat belt, and one for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
