Woman killed in crash near Van Wert

VAN WERT, Ohio - A Cloverdale, Ohio, woman has been killed in a single-vehicle crash on Carpenter Road about six miles east of this community, authorities said.

Heidi Kohles, 30, who was thrown from a pickup truck that she was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Sunday night, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. in Van Wert County’s Washington Township, troopers at the patrol’s Van Wert post said.

Ms. Kohles was westbound on Carpenter about a half-mile east of Dog Creek Road when she drove off the left side of the road and over-corrected, causing the pick-up to go back on the road and then go off the right side of it. The vehicle then overturned several times, struck a tree, and came to rest upright against a house, according to the patrol.

Ms. Kohles’ only passenger, Kenneth Janka, 49, of Delphos, Ohio, was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment, troopers said.

Van Wert is about 80 miles southwest of Toledo.
