MINOOKA, Ill - Four people were taken to a hospital after a bus carrying volunteers with the Maumee-based Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps collided with a tractor-trailer rig early Friday just northeast of this community, Illinois State Police said.
Three passengers and the bus driver, whose names were not immediately available, were taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill., with minor injuries, said Sgt. Martez Malone, of the state police department. The organization said in a press release that the bus driver was the only one to suffer injuries; the rest were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The tour bus was eastbound on I-80 just east of a service plaza about 6:15 a.m. when it struck the rear of a semi, Sergeant Malone said.
The corps was at the University of Toledo last night for its home show and was traveling to Normal, Il., for a competition tonight in which the group will still compete, the organization said in a release.
The Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps describes itself as "a Northwest Ohio based musical youth organization, which provides opportunities that promote and develop life skills and personal enrichment through education, participation and performance.
"The group is made up of 150 high school and college age students who rehearse throughout the year in Toledo and spend two months of the summer touring the country to perform at regional competitions, parades and education clinics."
Minooka is about 400 miles west of Toledo.
