5 hurt, 2 seriously, in crash at Hillsdale County intersection

HILLSDALE - Two badly injured Hillsdale County residents were taken by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Friday after a two-vehicle crash in Wright Township, about 15 miles southeast of here, according to the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office.

Joseph Havasy, Sr., 36, of Pittsford was in critical condition; a passenger of his, Angelica Jo Barnes, 26, of Waldron was listed as serious.

Deputies said Mr. Havasy was northbound on Waldron Road shortly before 3 p.m. when he struck a vehicle traveling west on Burt Road that pulled into his path after stopping at the intersection.

Three passengers in the Havasy vehicle - Joseph Havasy, Jr., 17, of Pittsford and two unidentified juveniles - were treated at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

The other driver, Matthew Bender, 20, of Waldron was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
