Hens hitters stifled by Indianapolis pitching
INDIANAPOLIS — Toledo managed to get just three singles while Indianapolis had only five hits, but the Indians capitalized on two doubles and walked away with a 3-0 blanking of the Mud Hens last night.
Toledo starter Brooks Brown fell to 3-12 despite allowing just three hits over seven innings of work.
Mike Hessman, Maxwell Leon and Andy Ciriaco had the only hits for the Hens (69-68).
Leon and Ciriaco came up with back-to-back base knocks with two outs in the fifth inning. But Will Rhymes lined out to end the threat.
Indianapolis, also 69-68, got two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth thanks to the two doubles.
Three Indians pitchers combined for the shutout. Starter Yoslan Herrera got his first win.
Brown gave up three earned runs and walked five, but also struck out three. Reliever Matt Rusch yielded two hits, but did not give up a run in the eighth.
Toledo went 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The Hens turned a double play, but committed an error as well.
The teams meet again tonight before Toledo returns home for the final two games of the season at Fifth Third Field tomorrow and Friday.
