Sylvania Arts and Crafts Festival at Lourdes College
The annual Arts and Crafts Festival, presented by the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce, will be 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lourdes College. It will feature 180 artisans, entertainment, food, and a children's play area. Admission is $2 and parking is free, with continuous shuttles from Northview High School and Harroun Park. An artist trading card night with a theme of Your Hopes and Dreams, will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in Space 237. People are invited to bring up to a dozen handmade cards, 2 ½-by-3½-inches, to swap one for one. Swapping artist trading cards is a way to acquire small works of art at no cost. The Athena Art Society's juried Fall Art Exhibition continues in the Parkwood Gallery through Oct. 2, closing that day with a 4:30 to6 p.m. reception. The gallery is at 1838 Parkwood Ave. across Monroe Street from the Toledo Museum of Art.

Line By Line, Three Women Working in Colored Pencil, will celebrate the artists with a 5 to 7 p.m. open house Sept. 12 in Hudson Gallery, 5645 North Main St. in Sylvania. Attention to detail, composition, and craftsmanship are hallmarks of the 30 works by Bonnie Auten, Lynda Schumacher, and Dianna Wallace Soisson in this show, on view through Sept. 26.

A Digital Art Show features Craig Blair, Anna Buntain, Susan Krueger, and Bob Midden at the Arts in Common Gallery opening with a 5 to 7 p.m. reception tomorrow and continuing through Sept. 27. The gallery is at South Main Commonspace, 437 South Main St. in Bowling Green.

Two recent graduates of Bowling Green State University's digital arts program are winners in the 3D Games division of GameJam!, a new, international video-game competition. James Maloney who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in May, won in the funniest category for his Henry the Frog character, and Greg Wark, a 2008 graduate, took the crowd favorite award for his Creepy Crawler. Maloney, Wark, and Brian Nixon, another 2008 graduate, were among 27 participants from around the world selected to compete in the first GameJam! in which they had 24 hours to create a game using the Panda3D game engine. Winners were announced in New Orleans at SIGGRAPH 2009, the 36th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

A stained-glass class for adults led by Tammy Morman will be offered by the Findlay Art League in three-hour sessions Oct. 24, 31, and Nov. 7. Fee: $150. Silence: Here and There is an installation of large works by Jim Cogswell in the Klemm Gallery at Siena Heights University in Adrian. Silence is an 8-by-18-foot painting and shelf-paper collage on seven panels in response to 17th-century star charts. Here, I Am relates to the birth of stars with 8-by-9-feet of paper plates, steel cans, paint, and vinyl. Cogswell will speak on his art at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 23 in the studio.
