Cedar Point to get $10M water ride

( CEDAR POINT )

SANDUSKY - Cedar Point will debut its most expensive water ride ever when Shoot the Rapids opens next spring at the amusement park's Frontier Trail, officials said Thursday morning.

The three-minute ride, which will cost $10.5 million to build, will carry passengers up two lift hills, one of which will be 85-feet-tall and will then drop riders at a 45-degree angle.

Seated in 10-person boats, passengers will go on a 2,100-foot long journey through a wooded area at the Sandusky amusement park and past an "illegal still used for brewing sweet-tasting elixir, all while encountering surprise water elements and special effects," officials said.

The ride will have a capacity of 1,200 passengers per hour.

It will be designed and manufactured by IntaRide LLC, of Glen Burnie, Md., which also built the park's Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, and Millennium Force Roller coasters and Thunder Canyon river-rafting ride.

Cedar Point, known for its roller coasters, is the top amusement park owned by Cedar Fair LP.
