Sylvania Southview student contracts MRSA infection
BLADE STAFF
A Sylvania Southview High School student has the MRSA staph infection, according to district spokesman Nancy Crandell.
After the district was notified that a doctor had confirmed the MRSA, it directly told those who had been in contact with the student, and the rest of the parents, staff, and faculty were notified with an automated message, Ms. Crandell said Monday.
“We've done due diligence at the school to make sure everything is clean and disinfected anywhere the student was,” she said.
The notifications and extra cleaning were precautions, Ms. Crandell said, and the school will be in session as scheduled Tuesday.
MRSA bacteria is highly resistant to most antibiotics and causes red and swollen skin.
Symptoms of a more serious staph infection include chest pain, fever, muscle aches, and shortness of breath.
